  • ​She Recovers : Walker County & adjacent communities

    • Offers mothers struggling with substance use a one-stop for prenatal care, substance use treatment, medication, parenting support, counseling, and peer recovery support.

    • Also connects women to resources for food, clothing, healthcare, and legal issues.​

  • Alabama Department of Mental Health: 

    • Serves Alabama citizens with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders.

  • UAB Comprehensive Addiction in Recovery Program (CAPP):

    • Provides help for new and expecting mothers with a current or past substance use disorder.

    • The CAPP clinic combines prenatal and postpartum care with social services, case management, and peer recovery support, along with evaluation and treatment for addiction.​

  • Children's of Alabama - The Amelia Center:

    • Provides professional counseling and support groups for parents grieving the death of a child of any age, ranging from pregnancy loss through adulthood. Along with additional child counseling services.

Breastfeeding Resources:

  • Alabama Breastfeeding Committee: ​

    • Mission is to work toward the development of resources and partnerships that will lead to the effective promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding within the State.​

  • Alabama WIC Breastfeeding Resource Guide:

    • WIC mothers have free access to 24/7 breastfeeding and infant feeding support through the Pacify app.

  • Alabama Cribs for Kids:

    • Funding from the federal Maternal and Child Health Services Title V Block Grant has allowed Alabama to purchase a limited number of play yards for families who meet qualifications and need a safe sleep environment for their infants under one year of age. ​

  • Alabama Day Care Directory:

    • This Directory is designed to provide information about Child Day Care Centers throughout the state of Alabama. ​

  • Subsidized Day Care Services:

    • The Office of Child Care Subsidy administers the subsidized child care program to provide Alabama’s low and moderate-income families with equal access to affordable and quality child care services as they participate in work, educational or training activities.

  • ​Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC):

    • The federal WIC program supports low-income pregnant women, new mothers, and children up to age 5 by providing nutrition education, healthy food, breastfeeding support, and health care referrals.

    • Most WIC programs provide participants with food vouchers to use at approved grocery stores. To apply, visit your local WIC office.

Mental Health Resources: 

​

  • National Maternal Mental Health Hotline: Call or text 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262)

    • 24/7, free, confidential support, resources and referrals to any pregnant and postpartum mothers facing mental health challenges and their loved ones. The service is available via phone and text in English or Spanish.​​

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Hotline: 

    • 988 is the national three-digit phone number for all mental health, substance use, and suicide crisis.​

    • Calls are routed to Alabama Call centers located at AltaPointe Health in Mobile; in Birmingham at JBS in collaboration with The Crisis Center Birmingham; in Dothan with SpectraCare Health Systems; and in Huntsville at WellStone.

  • Postpartum Depression (PPD):

    • Community website sharing the stories of women and men who have experienced postpartum depression (PPD).​

  • Postpartum Support International:

    • Dedicated to helping women suffering from perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, including postpartum depression.

    • Also work to educate family, friends, and healthcare providers so that moms and moms-to-be can get the support they need and recover.​

  • InfantSEE:

    • Infants six to twelve months of age can receive a free comprehensive eye and vision examination regardless of a family's income or access to health insurance coverage through InfantSEE. InfantSEE is a public health program managed by Optometry's Charity, The AOA Foundation.

  • March of Dimes - Prenatal Care Information and Resources:

    • What to expect at your first appointment, how to prepare, signs to look for, and resources for free/low-cost prenatal care.​

  • Baby Feeding Classes:

    • Free baby feeding classes surrounding preparing for feeding your baby during pregnancy, postpartum baby feeding classes, pumping classes, and partner-focused classes.​

  • Safe to Sleep:

    • Information and resources to help reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related infant deaths.​

  • Alabama Car Seat Safety Information:​​

    • Four out of five children are improperly restrained in their safety seats. Visit Car Seat Inspection Stations to get free help with your car seat, including information on selecting the correct seat for your child and demonstrations on safely installing a car seat in your car. â€‹
