Doula training for certified recovery support specialists

Doula Training for CRSS's is a project funded by the Alabama Department of Mental Health.

The goal of this collaboration is to be able to provide more comprehensive support to people who are simultaneously navigating pregnancy and substance-use recovery.

Doula support involves meeting with people during pregnancy to provide support and resources, accompanying them during labor to offer emotional and physical support, and meeting postpartum to support the physical and emotional wellness of mother and baby.

Providing birth doula services requires a serious commitment of time and energy, as births can happen any time and labor may last 24 hours or more.  You must have job and personal flexibility to be "on call" for a client from about the 37th week of pregnancy until the birth occurs.

Birth work can be incredibly rewarding, but please also consider your self-care needs and decide if providing this level of intense, one-on-one support is something you are emotionally prepared to do.
